The Most and Least Popular Slang for Each Generation

Here we go…. Every generation has their fair share of:  Cool . . . uncool . . . desperately trying to be cool . . . and not giving a rat’s ass.  And every generation has its SLANG.

There’s a new study out on the most and least popular slang for all age groups . . . and it includes the MOST USED slang words.

For Boomers, the #1 is “bummer” . . . followed by “mellow” and “wannabe.”

For Gen X, it’s “chill” . . . followed by “lame” and “bummer.”

For Millennials, the #1 is “OMG” . . . followed by “chill” and “lame.”

And for Gen Z, it’s “selfie” . . . followed by “OMG” and “ghosted.”

There’s also a rundown of the slang words we want to GO AWAY FOREVER.

For Boomers, the most hated slang word is “woke.”  (Which is a little ironic, since Boomers are the only generation saying “woke” these days.)

Boomers also want to ditch the terms “gucci” and “sheesh.”

For Gen X, they want to cancel “thirsty” . . . “clap back” . . . and “slay.”

For Millennials, they want to forget “slay” . . . “sus” . . . and “clout.”

And for Gen Z, they want to banish “savage” . . . “sksksk” . . . and “POV.”

You’d think that there wouldn’t be much argument there, but everything is CYCLICAL . . . so some do NOT want to kill these terms.

For example, Gen Z wants to use MORE of “sheesh” and “clap back” . . . while the older generations are looking to use MORE of Gen Z’s castaways, including: “POV and “sksksk.”  (Which is a term, and not just a keyboard smash.)

It wasn’t all negativity though.  The generations were also asked which slang words they’d like to BRING BACK.

Boomers want to bring back “far out” . . . “peace out” . . . and “bummer.”

Gen X wants to revive “right on” . . . “groovy” . . . and “epic.”

Millennials want to bring back “cool cat” . . . “cowabunga” . . . and “talk to the hand.”  (Please God, no.)

And Gen Z wants to bring back “YOLO” . . . “rad” . . . and “wazzup.”

(Preply.com has the whole report, and there’s a lot there.)
