Have you ever tried to master a skill or learn something new, but despite your best efforts, you just couldn’t seem to get the hang of it? It’s a frustrating feeling, and it can be disheartening to give up on something you’ve put a lot of time and energy into.

Personally, I’ve experienced this feeling when trying to learn how to play the guitar about 10 years ago. I’ve always admired musicians and wanted to learn how to play an instrument myself, so I started practicing regularly. However, no matter how much I practiced, I just couldn’t seem to get my fingers to move quickly and accurately enough to play even basic chords.

I recently asked the question on my Facebook page – “what is something you tried, but gave up on because you just couldn’t get it no matter how hard you tried?”  The answers you gave were epic.

Steve said, “Yoga…just can’t get into sending all my negative energy out of my toes”

Angela said, “whistling with my fingers and backing up a trailer.”

Julie said, “foreign languages and musical instruments…just not wired for them”

those are great examples and you can read all of themon my FB page here

After weeks of struggling and feeling discouraged, I realized that maybe playing the guitar wasn’t for me. While it was disappointing to give up on something I had been excited about, I also learned that it’s okay to acknowledge our limitations and move on from things that aren’t bringing us joy or fulfillment. Sometimes, the best thing we can do for ourselves is to let go of our expectations and find something that we truly enjoy and excel at.
